Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician and Chairperson of the Medical Advisory Commission of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee
Dr Zondi is a Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) Physician and business executive with diversified healthcare and leadership experience. She currently works as the Clinical Lead for Standard Bank health tech start up, Unu Health. Dr Zondi is the Chairperson of the Medical Advisory Commission for the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), a Director at the Sharks Rugby Union, Associate Editor for the British Journal of Sports medicine, a medical advisor to Virgin Active Africa, and a trustee of the South African Women in Sport Foundation. In 2015- 2017, Dr. Zondi served as President of the South African Sports Medicine Association, and between 2016 – 2020, was the CEO of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa where she lead a successful process of strategic renewal to lay a new foundation for business development and growth. Dr has extensive clinical experience working as a team physician in a variety of codes and has served as Chief Medical Officer for Team South Africa at Commonwealth Games, World Games, Olympic Games and Paralympics Games. Her current clinical and research interests are in the area female athlete health, and she is involved with numerous national and international advocacy groups focused on equity and transformation in health and sport. In August 2017, Dr Zondi was conferred a Ministerial Recognition Award in acknowledgement of her contribution to sport in South Africa.

Pieter specialises in delivering high-performance strategies to optimise wellbeing and elite performance in high pressure environments on a systemic, team and individual level. He has worked with Olympic and elite athletes, and professional teams globally. Pieter has delivered Executive Coaching across various sectors to senior executives and is currently a performance and mental health coach for the McLaren F1 Racing Team.

Dr.Masamitsu Ito is a professor at Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU) as well as the director of the NSSU Center for coaching excellence and the NSSU Coach Developer academy. He holds a PhD in sports science and has worked as a member of the technical staff of the Japan Men’s and Women’s Volleyball National Teams. He now specializes in coach development and serves as a mentor to many coaches. He works as the head of the Coaches Subcommittee of the Japan Paralympic Committee’s High Performance Headquarters. He is also responsible for the design of the Japan Sport Association’s coach certification programs and coach developer training, as well as a program to train future female national team coaches in Japan.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Ahmad Munir Che Muhamed is an Associate Professor in Sport and Exercise Science at the Department of Community Health, Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. He is the founding head of the Master of Science (Clinical Exercise Science) program at AMDI and currently is serving again as the Head for this Postgraduate Program for the second time. His academic endeavour started in 1990 when he was awarded the Federal Sports Scholarship by the Ministry of Youth and Sport Malaysia. He received his Bachelor and Master of Science Degree from Indiana State University in Exercise Science in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He then completed his doctoral studies in Exercise and Sports Science at The University of Sydney in 2005. His primary research interest includes environmental exercise physiology where he had examined the influence of relative humidity in the development of heat stress and its effect on sports performance. In addition, Dr Munir had also examined circulatory and muscular physiological responses to exercise. Dr Munir has presented his research findings in several national and international Scientific Conferences and is active in consultancy work relating to Sport Science within several Government Agencies. He was previously the Chairman of National Coaching Board, Malaysia from 2009-2011.

Strength and Conditioning Coach, Sport Scientist and Manager of the Strength and Conditioning for South African Rugby Union. Mr. Qumbu is a Strength and Conditioning Coach who has 15 years’ experience in the field, specializing in rugby conditioning. He is currently the Strength and Conditioning Manager for SA Rugby, tasked with overseeing the physical preparation for national teams and referees. He spent two years as a lecturer at North West University Potchefstroom, in the Diploma in Coaching Sciences Department, and co-published research pertaining to Injury prevalence in javelin throwersand The use of the squat as a final phase knee rehabilitation assessment tool. Mr. Qumbu has extensive experience working as a lead conditioning coach in a variety of rugby competitions such as the Varsity Shield, u19 and u21 Currie Cup, Springbok Women outbound tours, Sevens Students World Championship, Sevens Rugby World Cup and Junior World Cup. He was recently part of the 2021 Springboks British and Irish Lions tour winning team and 2023 Rugby World Cup winning team as the Sport Scientist.

Lize is a Registered Dietitian with a PhD in Exercise Science and is currently employed as an Associate Professor in the Centre of Excellence for Nutrition at North-West University (NWU). Her PhD thesis focused on nutritional strategies for endurance and ultra-endurance cycling, but her research focus has more recently expanded beyond Sport Nutrition to also include Public Health Nutrition. She is responsible for lecturing the postgraduate Sport Nutrition module at NWU, supervises a number of MSc and PhD research projects and have presented at national and international conferences and published original research in scientific journals. Lize is an active endurance cyclist and triathlete herself and consults with a number of sporting organisations as nutrition advisor. She has also worked as a consultant Dietitian for various sports teams and individual athletes from national, university, and school levels.

Dr. Adele Broodryk is a senior lecturer at the North-West University and is also a professional ultra-distance road runner. She holds a PhD in Human Movement Sciences, within the field of sport science and an interest in sports recovery to optimize performance. As a professional athlete, she is keen to take her knowledge and research to the practical field, and vice versa. She has completed the Comrades marathon twice, finishing third, and second, respectively. With the latter finishing the race within 3rd fastest time in history. She is also a keen researcher within the field of recovery with a special focus on sleep as a recovery aid. She has been involved with multiple sportcodes as a sport scientist, providing motivational talks to various groups and athletes. Currently, she acts as the program leader within the subgroup Sport Science in the School of Human Movement Sciences, teaching modules within the fields of exercise science, exercise psychology and exercise physiology.

Nelson Komane Nel is a seasoned hockey coach with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. With over 13 years of coaching under his belt, Komane has established himself as a respected figure in the hockey community, known for his strategic insight, dedication, and leadership. Nelson's coaching journey reached new heights when he took the reins as the coach of the Die Menlopark under-16 Girls team. Under his tutelage, the team soared to victory, clinching the prestigious National under-16 tournament title in 2018, a testament to Nelson's exceptional coaching prowess. In 2019, Nelson embarked on a new chapter in his coaching career, joining NWU Hockey as the Technical Director and Ladies Head Coach, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping the team's performance and fostering a culture of excellence within the program. Nelson's impact extended to the national stage, where he served as the Head Coach of the North – West under-21 Ladies team, guiding young talents towards their full potential and preparing them for the rigors of elite competition. Nelson’s expertise was further recognized when he was appointed as the National Video Analyst for hockey, a role in which he played a crucial part in analysing game strategies and player performances at prestigious events such as the Commonwealth Games, World Cup, Nations Cup, and the Africa Cup, an Olympic qualifier. Dr. Yolandi Willemse is a senior lecturer in the Centre for Health & Human Performance (CHHP) at the North-West University and Head of the Sport Science and Biokinetics division within the CHHP. Educated in Randfontein at Hoërskool Riebeeck and then continuing with her studies in 1995 at the NWU, Yolandi started a career in Sport Science in 2000 at the NWU. She has been working as a sport scientist for the past 24 years. Yolandi worked as a sport scientist for various sport teams from national, university and school level. She was die sport scientist for the SPAR Protea Netball Team from 2003 – 2010 and a consultant for Netball South Africa during the 2021 – 2022 term. Yolandi was also a sport scientist for the Red Kestrel provincial netball team and the NWU Rugby Institute junior rugby teams. She also lecturers sport science modules with a speciality in the practical training of students. Furthermore, Yolandi is also involved in research with specialization in sport science and sport management.

Faith Motau is currently serving as the Netball Director at Volkskool Potchefstroom and holds the role of high-performance coach for the Mpumalanga Sunbirds, competing in the Telkom Netball League. Originally from Nelspruit, Faith has had the privilege of representing Mpumalanga, The North West, and Limpopo during her playing career, achieving the highest level of competition in each province. In 2012, Faith had the honor of representing her country at the U/18 level as part of the SA School team. Her journey into coaching began 11 years ago during her first year at the University of North West. Initially assisting with netball clinics, Faith developed a genuine passion for coaching, nurtured by the guidance of Dorette Badenhorst, a former Protea coach. She dedicated herself to continuous learning, absorbing insights from every training camp and opportunity presented to her. This dedication helped Faith refine her coaching style, ensuring it not only suited her but also benefited those she would coach in the future. Throughout her career, Faith has held various coaching positions, including coaching the TUT High-Performance team and progressing to roles such as team captain, assistant coach, and currently, head coach of the Mpumalanga Sunbirds. Her coaching philosophy centers on making a positive impact on lives, viewing coaching as a ministry that she approaches with utmost seriousness. In addition to her high-performance involvement, Faith remains committed to school netball, where she prepares young athletes for the demands of high-performance sports. Witnessing their growth and understanding the requirements for success at higher levels enriches Faith's coaching experience and reinforces her dedication to this ministry of coaching.

Duitser has more than 20 years’ experience in the sporting industry. His expertise lie in the development and running of various sporting competitions that include strategy development, business development, financial management and social media management within the sporting environment. Duitser’s sports management skills were recognised by SA Rugby, and he was afforded the unique opportunity to serve as the British and Irish Lions’ South African manager during their 2009 tour to South Africa. Some of his extraordinary professional achievements include being the first appointed CEO of the very successful Varsity Cup Programme (inter-university rugby competition) as well as the Varsity Sports. This experience has contributed to the development of advanced skills in building and positioning sporting brands, innovative marketing and branding expertise. “Engaging and partnering with a diverse range of stakeholders and managing all aspects of a business is a critical skillset that I have to offer.” Duitser says. He completed his MBA at the NWU Business School in 2000 and served as marketing manager for the PUK Rugby Institute for seven years. Some of his Varsity Cup and Varsity Sports achievements include growing Varsity Cup from a Superbowl stretching over a weekend to a turnover R7 million in 2008, with continual growth to R25million in 2013. He developed Varsity Cup and Varsity Shield to include the involvement of 16 universities. Currently, Duitser resides in the Paarl with his wife and three kids, where he works as CEO for his company, Duitser Bosman Sport (Pty) Ltd. His company enjoys immense success and helps turn spectators into clients through quality sport management, competition management and sport sponsorship.

Professor Jacques Faul is a well-known cricket administrator and has been the CEO of cricket for 21 years. During this time, he has consulted on behalf of the International Cricket Council with members of the Council to provide strategic direction. Prof Faul is regarded as a turnaround specialist in sports and is credited for successful turnaround strategies. His field of study includes stakeholder management, law, and mega and major sporting events. He is a trained mediator and founded the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution in Sport. He is also a co-founding member of CEOs in Sport; the association focuses on the continuous professional development of executives in sports. He is also a founding member of the South African Sports Law Association. He has published “ Crisis Management in Sport”, a management book. He has written management chapters. in various handbooks. Professor Faul started his administrative career in 2003 when he was appointed CEO of Northwest Cricket. He was the acting CEO of Cricket South Africa in 2012 and again in 2020. He was appointed the CEO of Titans Cricket in 2013. The Titans Cricket Franchise is considered the most successful cricket franchise in the modern era. He is an Associate Professor at the Northwest University Business School and guest lecturer at many other tertiary institutions. He was student of the year in 2007 at the University of the Witwatersrand Business School Executive Sports Management Program. He has completed an executive certificate in major event management at the Sidney University of Technology. Professor Faul holds various qualifications, including a PhD, MBA and LLM.

At North-West University, Prof. Dr. Martinique Sparksis an associate professor in the research focus area "Physical Activity, Sport, and Recreation." Her career in performance analysis began in 2009, working in rugby union as match analyst. Her PhD thesis was named "Internal and external match loads of university-level soccer players: a comparison of methods" and I finished it in 2015. They investigated various ways for describing match intensity, as well as fatigue and potential pacing strategies within soccer.Following her PhD, her efforts were focussed on the influence of fatigue on performance, hormonal, and psychological profiles in female soccer players. She was furtherinvolvedas performance analyst for the South African Women's Hockey team. During thistime,they qualified for the Vitality World cup in London and also competed at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Recently, her concentration has evolved slightly away from GPS-based studies and toward large datasets involving video analysis and match statistics in football and hockey. In 2022 she completed her Graduate certificate in Data Analytics for Sports Performance at Victoria University, Melbourne and was invited as a panellist during the World Football Summit. She further holds an adjunct professor position in the School of Health and Medical Sciences as well as the Centre for Health Research at the University of Southern Queensland, Ipswich, Australia.

Prof Patricios is Director of Waterfall Sports Orthopaedic Surgery in Johannesburg and Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Wits University where he leads the Wits Sport and Health (WiSH) Research Group. Prof Patricios is founder and Director of Sports Concussion South Africa. He has promoted the need for more structured concussion evaluations in youth and professional sport and has served as an advisor to SA Rugby, specifically the Boksmart rugby safety programme. He serves as a medical adviser to World Rugby, UEFA and the NFL. He is an editor of the British Journal of Sports Medicine and is lead author of the recently published International Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport.

He has managed and coached Triathlon South Africa teams at multiple Commonwealth and Olympic Games. Parry coached Caroline Cherry (Wostmann) and Charne to victories in the 2015 and 2016 Comrades Marathons and currently coaches Adele Broodryk. His academic credentials include a BSc in Zoology and Human Kinetics & Ergonomics from Rhodes University, a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science with Biokinetics from the University of Zululand, and an internship at the University of Cape Town Sports Science Institute. He has also worked in private practice (2003-2007), at Pretoria University's High Performance Centre (2007-2015), and served as Junior Academy Director at Pretoria University Athletics Club (2015-2022).

Dr Pieter van den Berg has been a Senior Lecturer at the North-West University since 2002 and specializes in the Coaching of team sports, Video Analyses and Sevens rugby. He is currently the program leader for the Diploma in Coaching Sciences and head coach of the North-West University men’s Sevens rugby team. Previously Pieter assisted Zimbabwe as technical consultant at the Hong Kong HSBC sevens tournament, coached the Leopards men’s Sevens team to Provincial titles and the South African men’s Sevens, students’ team to a World championship title.

Elsjé is an experienced high performance netball coach and has been a director of Sportisimo, a sports consultancy for 21 years. During this time, she has coached a number of international and domestic teams. Dr Jordaan is highly regarded as a high-performance coach and is best-known for successfully integrating multidisciplined sport science strategies in the teams she is involved with. She has coached the Gauteng Fireballs to their maiden TNL Championship title in 2022 and the Johannesburg Senior A team has dominated the National Championships over the last 2-years, winning gold in 2022 and 2023. Elsjé was also involved with the Spar Proteas in the capacity of performance analyst during the 2007 World Cup. She later joined as an assistant coach until she became the Head Coach of the Spar Proteas during 2018. She also coached the SA U21 team as well as the South African Fast5 Team. She has shared her knowledge with the SABC viewers during the 2023 World Cup hosted in South Africa. Elsjé is currently developing an online netball coaching system for mini netball where she applies her field of study namely Talent Identification in Netball, to aid the future netball stars of South Africa. She views herself to be a down to earth, ‘plattelandse’ girl, in love with her family and Benji, her highly intelligent Maltese poodle.

Bertus le Roux was born in Pretoria and also completed his school career there but has been a resident of Potchefstroom for the past 39 years, when he began studying at the former PUK in 1985. After completing his BSC Honors studies in Biokinetics, he started his career at the former Naschem. After 10 years of service (during which he was also as Sports Organizer and later as Manager: Human Resources Development), he moved to the PUK/NWU, where he worked, among other things, at the Telematic Learning Department (Logistics Manager) and Registrar's Office (Snr Manager: Higher Grade Admin & Ceremonies. He is currently the Business & Operations Manager of the NWU Centre for Health & Human Performance. Bertus obtained his PhD in Relationship Marketing in 2011 and is very passionate about the principles of Customer Experience Management. For the past 30 years, he has served on various institutions' Councils, including the Potchefstroom Technical College, North-West Academy for Sport, Potch Gimmies Governing Body (Vice-Chairman), NWU Senate, NWU Institutional Forum (Chairman) and NWU Council. He has also been a City Councillor since 2006 and has been both DA Caucus and Constituency Chairman. For the past 22 years, he has been the Residence Parent of Villagers Men's Hostel and also works part-time for the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport. His hobbies are photography, new technology and cycling. He obtained permanent numbers in the Comrades Marathon (11x), Two Oceans Marathon (13x) and Canoe Ironman Triathlon (15x) and was also several times team manager of national athletics, duathlon and triathlon teams. Bertus is also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren.

Matt Proudfoot is currently the head coach of the Leopards and the new man in charge of this Currie Cup First Division outfit, which he represented as senior player 56 times.Educated at Potchefstroom High School for Boys, Proudfoot turned out in the Vodacom Cup and later Currie Cup for the Leopards after which he moved to Scotland to play for Melrose.Proudfoot then represented Edinburgh Rugby and won 3 international caps while with Edinburgh, before returning to South Africa. Injury forced him into semi-retirement but he still played for the Leopards and the Blue Bulls. Glasgow Warriors coach Hugh Campbell persuaded him to return to full-time Scottish professional rugby.In 2003 he returned to Scotland to play for Glasgow Warriors. He won 1 more international cap while with the Warriors.Proudfoot was part of Rassie Erasmus’ successful backroom staff that won the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.In January 2020, he was added to Eddie Jones' England coaching staff ahead of the 2020 Six Nationsand left at the end of 2022. He had a coaching spell at Stellenbosch University before joining Namibia as their forwards coach for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Shaun's ascent in the coaching realm saw him rise to prominence as the Head of Hockey at Die Hoërskool Menlopark. Under his guidance, Menlo achieved unprecedented success, clinching numerous titles and accolades in various competitions. His expertise transcended the school level, as he assumed roles as a provincial coach across different age groups, from grassroots to senior teams. Shaun's dedication and strategic acumen contributes significantly to the development of athletes within the provincial setup. Shaun's impact extended nationally when he lent his expertise to the National Ladies Team, serving as a trainer for camps. His contributions played a pivotal role in preparing athletes for the rigors of international competition. Shaun's leadership within the sports domain extended to the university level, where he holds the position of NWU Hockey Manager. Additionally, he served as the Ladies Head Coach at NWU, shaping the next generation of hockey stars through his mentorship and guidance. Lana Krige attended the University of Stellenbosch, where she earned a BA in Human Movement Science followed by a teaching diploma. During her university years, she was selected to represent South Africa and played in 72 tests for the country. After teaching for two years, she transitioned into farming and took on coaching responsibilities at the then Techicon of Port Elizabeth, which later became Nelson Mandela University, where she continues to coach today. Alongside her coaching role, Lana also became a mother of three. Over the years, she has been involved in High-Performance coaching at a national level, serving as an assistant coach for the SA University team during the World Cup, assistant coach for the SA U21 and SA Protea teams, and Head coach for the Fast5 team that won bronze. Additionally, Lana has coached the NMB and EC provincial teams for many years. For her, coaching is not just about the game but also about connecting with people and translating those lessons into real-life scenarios. It's a lifestyle that involves self-reflection and refining coaching methods, encompassing both love and challenges simultaneously.

Colin Powell is a qualified strength and conditioning specialist for the NWU Eagles Netball team at the North-West University, Potchefstroom. Colin specializes in advanced methods of strength and conditioning to enhance team-based performance. He is a seasoned coach with vast experience (7 years) in various competitive standards including the 2022 Spar Proteas, U/19 Baby Spar Proteas, Telkom Netball League (North West Flames and Tshukudus), NWU teams (Varsity Cup and USSA), U/19 Provincial (Dr Kenneth Kaunda), and school level netball (Potch Gimmies). He is currently pursuing his PhD in netball-specific training to enhance athletic performance.

Helene Botha is an accomplished sports professional with a rich academic background from the University of Stellenbosch, where she obtained a BA, B Honours, and a Teaching Diploma in 1983. Her career spans various impactful roles and achievements. At North-West University Potchefstroom Campus from 2003 onwards, Helene served as the Manager for Women's Sports. Her responsibilities included overseeing Netball, Tennis, and Aquatics programs at regional and national levels, as well as managing development courses for Netball and Tennis in the North West region. Between 2003 and 2023, Helene Botha achieved numerous accomplishments and engaged in a wide range of activities in the sports domain. She was responsible for managing the Netball, Tennis, and Aquatics programs at North-West University Potchefstroom Campus. Additionally, Helene served as the FISU (International University Sports Federation) Netball technical coordinator and actively participated as a member of University Sports South Africa. She played a key role in organizing several prestigious events, including the SPAR National Netball Championships, National Netball Training camps, ATP Tennis tournaments, Junior ITF Grade 2&6 Tennis Tournaments, and the Growthpoint Junior Masters. Holding significant leadership roles, Helene served as President of North West Netball and Vice President of Netball South Africa. She also directed tournaments for South African Student Sport (SASSU) Netball and served as President/Chairperson of USSA Netball and Tennis (University Sport South Africa). Furthermore, Helene managed the logistics for Team South Africa at the Universiade held in Russia and China. Her contributions and leadership in these areas demonstrate her dedication to sports management and development over the years, both nationally and internationally.

Ankebé is a senior psychologist in the Centre for Health & Human Performance (CHHP) at the North-West University and is the head of research within the CHHP. Ankebé has been working as a psychologist for the past 6 years, treating clients with various disorders and mental health challenges. Ankebé also worked as a consultant psychologist for various sports teams from the national, university, and school levels. She was also the team psychologist for TeamSA at the recent FISU World Student Games, which took place from 28 July to 8 August 2023 in Chengdu, China. Ankebé is currently appointed in a dual role as the strength and conditioning coach and performance psychologist for the NWU’s ladies' and men's high-performance hockey teams. She is also lecturing in the master’s program for clinical and counselling psychology and on an honours level in forensic accounting. Furthermore, Ankebé is an active researcher with 37 published articles to date.

With a career spanning over 18 years on high performance level. As a player, Elsunet has represented South Africa at the highest levels, competing in numerous international tournaments. Her athleticism and unwavering determination have earned her accolades and admiration from fans and peers alike. Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, Elsunet has brought her wealth of experience and expertise to mentor the next generation of netball talent. As a coach, she is known for her attention to detail, and commitment to player development. Under her guidance, NWU Eagles Netball has experienced remarkable growth and has produced top-tier players. Elsunet instills in her players not only the fundamentals of the game but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. She has been the head coach for the NWU Eagles netball team since 2018, the assistant coach for the SA President’s XII Team and is currently the head coach for the North West Flames Team. Off the court, Elsunet remains actively involved in promoting the growth of netball in North West. Desiree has more than a decade of experience developing sports coaching systems. Her sports coaching experiences span both global and local. She is the ICCE- chairperson of the Emerging Countries project team and the I Coach Kids (ICK) board member. She is also Director and co-founder of the Sports Coaching Lab ( SCL). Her journey with athletes and sports coaches fuelled her perseverance and passion which contributed to mapping the perceived insights to be a lifelong student of sports coaching. As the founding member and director of the Sports Coaching Lab (SCL), she engages with sports coaches and athletes to collaboratively find purpose and solutions within the diverse sports coaching context. She led Team South Africa, as the chef de mission in 2019. She drove the sports coaching programmes and co-authored3 reference books-The South African Coaching Framework, South Africa’s Long-term Coach Development Pathway, and South African- Sport for Life (Pathway for Athletes).

Ranel is a full professor in Sport Science in the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Lifestyle Medicine at Stellenbosch University. She lectures Applied Biomechanics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and presents lectures on Recovery in undergraduate and postgraduate modules. She has supervised many MSc and PhD research projects, has presented at national and international conferences and published in high-impact peer-reviewed scientific journals. She has pioneered research in the field of barefoot and minimalist shoe training in South Africa. She currently focuses on foot morphology of children growing up habitually barefoot and footwear as a risk factor for falls in older adults. She is founder and CEO of the spinout company, BanziFeet, from INNOVUS at Stellenbosch University, campaigning for better-designed school shoes for South African children. Apart from having been a provincial netball player, umpire, selector and also president of Boland Netball, Ranel has successfully completed Cape Town (Argus) cycle tours, Two Oceans ultramarathon, and various other half- and full marathons.
